The DiFalco Family: University of Denver

Almost exactly a year ago we were photographing Tammy + Greg’s maternity photos at the University of Denver and now their pup Franklin isn’t the only baby anymore 🙂 Grayson was born not long after our session with them last year and will be a year old next month. Oh my is he a cutie! Talk about a happy and smiley baby!!! Just can’t help but smile every time we look at these pictures from their session. Since DU made such a great backdrop last year for their maternity photos and they enjoy spending time in the area it was the perfect spot for their family session. The leaves were just starting to change adding some beautiful fall colors to the day and of course what is more fun for little kids than playing with the leaves! As usual we had a great time getting to see Tammy & Greg again and loved meeting little Grayson. So excited to share some of our favorites from their session and very happy to see what a beautiful little family they now have- Grayson is one lucky little guy. God Bless!

Romero Family: Washington Park Family Photos

Our session with the Romero family started out a little rocky back in September. What was supposed to be a nice day ended with an unexpected downpour mid session. We managed to get a few photos before the weather turned on us including some cute pictures of their daughter Grace making funny faces at the camera in the rain 🙂 But our second time around turned out to be perfect! We had beautiful weather and since a few weeks had passed the leaves had changed quite a bit for a backdrop of fall colors. They have a beautiful little family and we had such a good time with them- we are so glad Tamia gave them our name! Grace is such a cutie and her expressions were so funny of her watching and trying to follow the geese at Washington Park. Here’s some of our favorites.

Leonard Family: Castle Rock Family Session

What a difference a year makes! The last weekend in June we met up with the Leonard family at Columbine Open Space in Castle Rock for a family session. They were hoping to find a location with a barn and after some research we were so happy to find this spot just outside of town! It just happened to be exactly one year from our session with them last summer and it was so much fun to see how much their kids have grown since then. Reese is now walking which makes exploring everything around him so much more fun for him and a great workout for his parents 🙂 We did manage to capture a few of the whole family together while Reese enjoyed moving rocks from one place to another. We always love getting to work with Jennifer & Nick and with Lexi & Reese they make one of the cutest families ever! Here’s some of our favorites!

The Jones Family: Winter Family Portraits at Chatfield

2014 will be a year of changes for Volkel Image and we couldn’t be more excited! Over the years we’ve had a lot of fun getting to photograph such a wide variety of events & sessions and we realized how much we love portraits so this year we’ll be focusing a little more on that- family, senior high, engagements etc. And while I’ve been the primary shooter and Michelle has been my assistant for almost every session over the years, another change to this year is that she’s going to be taking on the primary role a little more while I get to have fun playing assistant. Since we rarely have two cameras other than weddings and engagements, Michelle hasn’t really had the opportunity to ever photograph a family session so this was her first time getting to do so. I did take a few images as well but this entire post is just of her images. My buddy Landon and his family were kind enough to be our first test subjects 🙂  I’ve known Landon for several years and we even photographed he and Katy’s wedding back in 2007! They now have two adorable kiddos, Brianna & Rylan, who were so good that afternoon. We could not have had a nicer winter day with temps reaching almost 60 degrees- definitely didn’t feel like the end of January in Colorado. Chatfield Botanic Gardens is always a great location for families with the animals on the property to entertain the kids and it was fun to go back since we hadn’t photographed there in quite some time. We had a great afternoon with these guys and I think Michelle got some pretty good images for her first family session! Here’s some of our favorites from the day.

The Kitchens Family: Highlands Ranch Family Pictures

While there may be a few kids who are fairly neutral when it comes to having their picture taken most kids fall into one of two categories- those who hate it and those who could smile all day long posing for the camera. Our little Goddaughter Berlin is definitely the latter. We’ve known the Kitchens family since I started my current “day job” several years back and have been great friends ever since. They moved to Colorado from Texas back then but unfortunately only stayed for a little while before moving back to their home state. We miss having them here but LOVE getting to spend time with them every time they visit Colorado. It’s been amazing to watch their daughter Berlin grow- from a little miracle baby born just a bit over 2 lbs to now a 3 year old full of energy with the biggest smile ever! Back in October they came out to visit for a family vacation and while this wasn’t a planned photo shoot we decided since it was such nice weather that we’d love to take some family pictures for them. I have to smile every time I see that big grin on Berlin’s face. We just love this family and are so blessed to have them in our lives. Love you guys!!

Mooney Family Portraits: Littleton, Colorado

We’ve known the Mooney family since the beginning of 2005 when I started my “day job” working with David. In 2006 we had the pleasure of photographing their wedding (with film!) and we’ve had the chance to watch their family grow over the years first with Ethan and then with Makayla (we absolutely adore these kids). We’re very blessed to have this wonderful family in our lives and love getting to photograph them every chance we get. This year we waited until the fall for their family portraits and as anyone living in Colorado can agree this was one of the most beautiful fall’s we’ve had in I can’t remember how long! Of course it had to end with a nice foot of snow to cover what was left of all the seasonal colors but we took these photos a few days before that happened. I think these have to be my favorites we’ve ever taken for the Mooney’s. We met near the South Platte Reservoir for their session the last week of October. We’d been to that location two other times but never this time of year. All the yellows in the trees made the perfect fall backdrop for their pictures. We had such a good time and just love these guys! We could have been out all day taking pictures for them- here’s a glimpse into our day.

Nami + John: Family Portraits at Cherry Creek North

It’s crazy how fast kids grow! Back in January we met Nami & John, Nami’s mother, and their two adorable little boys, Mason & Tyler at their home for baby pictures of little Mason. Now little Mason is running around everywhere keeping his parents on their feet chasing after him. We were so excited to meet up with this sweet family again for their family pictures at Cherry Creek North. I LOVE photographing at Cherry Creek North and for a family session it was even better. Most of the time we tend to stick to more “Colorado” type locations for family pictures so it’s fun when people choose an area that’s a little different than the norm. Fortunately the weather cooperated right through the end of the month so we had perfect weather for their session right before the snow came in. We had a wonderful time working with all of them and of course what fall session would be complete without letting the kids play in the leaves? Here’s some of our favorites from the day from this beautiful family. Thanks guys for the fun afternoon!
