The Arnoldy Family: Lair O’ the Bear

A couple weeks back we had the opportunity to photograph the Arnoldy family up at Lair O’ the Bear. We couldn’t have asked for a nicer afternoon and after weeks of trying to work around the snow to capture the look of spring it was so great finally getting to meet them! It was such an odd spring this year but up in Idledale things were a little slower so we were able to catch some flowers in the field and even a few blossoms on the trees. They are friends of the Brandle family who we had the pleasure of photographing last year and we are so grateful for the chance to photograph their family this time:-)They have three cute kiddos who made for a very fun session! Emerson is just getting the hang of this whole walking thing and was ready to go go go! The twins Noah & Mia are 5 and seem to have some good healthy competition with one another. I’m sure having twins has it’s challenges but it was fun watching these two:-)We had a great time with them and got so many cute pictures we’re excited to get to share! Annie & Eric it was so great meeting your family!

Volkel Family Portraits: Larkspur

Yes the name for this post is right- there are more Volkels out there. Okay actually these particular Volkels are related:-)Ever since my niece Hailey was born we’ve been wanting to get to photograph my brother and his family and this past weekend we got the chance! They made the drive down our way and we headed to Larkspur just before sunset. About halfway through we all learned that apparently Hailey LOVES rocking chairs. I think if we had let her she would have sat in that chair all day and all night. Which of course made for some adorable pictures of her since she was having the time of her life just rocking away. We made it to the open field right as the light created the most beautiful orange glow over the whole background- some of my favorites! So excited to share these photos with them and especially for the grandmas who have been waiting for these for a LOOOOOOOONG time 😉

The Richens Family: Fall Portraits in Larkspur

It’s been a while since we’ve photographed the Richens family and their boys have definitely grown! Here’s a link to their first session over 4 years ago in 2010! We love getting together with these guys, there is always plenty of laughter to go around as well as making the kids do funny things and laughing at their amusement- particularly Mitchell’s “Gromit” smile (from Wallace and Gromit)- it’s adorable:-) We met up with them at Dawson Butte in Larkspur right when the fall leaves were at their best. I just love the combo of the field and forest you get there. Now that the kids are older I had some pretty in depth conversations with them about turning sticks into pretend weapons and about how cool Spider-Man really is (the parents are raising them right teaching them about superheroes and all)! Here’s some of our favorites!

The Chasinoff Family: Larkspur Family Photography

With some changes we’ve made this year to our business it’s opened up a lot more time for family sessions which we LOVE getting to photograph. A week ago we got to meet friends of Jennifer and Nick Leonard, the Chasinoff family. We had a great time getting to take their photos and at one of our very favorite locations- Dawson Butte! They have a beautiful family with two beautiful girls! Allie their youngest has such a personality too- always my favorite part of getting to photograph families:-)The question we are most often asked when it comes to family pictures is what is the best way to dress? Since a picture says way more than words and the Chasinoff family NAILED it with the perfect clothing choices, I’ll just refer people to this post from now on. It was such a pleasure getting to work with these guys and I’m so excited to share some of our favorite pics from our session- enjoy!

Leonard Family: Castle Rock Family Session

What a difference a year makes! The last weekend in June we met up with the Leonard family at Columbine Open Space in Castle Rock for a family session. They were hoping to find a location with a barn and after some research we were so happy to find this spot just outside of town! It just happened to be exactly one year from our session with them last summer and it was so much fun to see how much their kids have grown since then. Reese is now walking which makes exploring everything around him so much more fun for him and a great workout for his parents:-)We did manage to capture a few of the whole family together while Reese enjoyed moving rocks from one place to another. We always love getting to work with Jennifer & Nick and with Lexi & Reese they make one of the cutest families ever! Here’s some of our favorites!

The Jones Family: Winter Family Portraits at Chatfield

2014 will be a year of changes for Volkel Image and we couldn’t be more excited! Over the years we’ve had a lot of fun getting to photograph such a wide variety of events & sessions and we realized how much we love portraits so this year we’ll be focusing a little more on that- family, senior high, engagements etc. And while I’ve been the primary shooter and Michelle has been my assistant for almost every session over the years, another change to this year is that she’s going to be taking on the primary role a little more while I get to have fun playing assistant. Since we rarely have two cameras other than weddings and engagements, Michelle hasn’t really had the opportunity to ever photograph a family session so this was her first time getting to do so. I did take a few images as well but this entire post is just of her images. My buddy Landon and his family were kind enough to be our first test subjects:-) I’ve known Landon for several years and we even photographed he and Katy’s wedding back in 2007! They now have two adorable kiddos, Brianna & Rylan, who were so good that afternoon. We could not have had a nicer winter day with temps reaching almost 60 degrees- definitely didn’t feel like the end of January in Colorado. Chatfield Botanic Gardens is always a great location for families with the animals on the property to entertain the kids and it was fun to go back since we hadn’t photographed there in quite some time. We had a great afternoon with these guys and I think Michelle got some pretty good images for her first family session! Here’s some of our favorites from the day.

Idledale Family Portraits: Kooi + Wyant Family

Back in high school I would have never thought that some day I would be photographing some of my classmates FAMILY’S, and cute ones at that. I’ve known Morgan and Andrea since high school and it was so awesome to catch up with them and photograph their families. It’s amazing how time flies after high school and to see that we all had families of our own. We meet at Lair O’ the Bear and once again it did not disappoint, it was gorgeous and we had perfect weather. And with the sketchy weather forecasts we’ve been getting lately we didn’t know if it might pour rain on us or not. The only snag of the day was when Andrea put down her purse in a field and we didn’t realize until the end of the shoot, but low and behold some nice colorado hikers said they had seen it and told us exactly where to look, purse saved! The kids were such little angels and had some of the best posers (future models perhaps?) and the husbands..well they were too. Great people, cute kids and no lost purses makes for some great photos, Enjoy!
