Sydney: Denver Senior Portraits

Sometimes it feels like the older we get the faster the years seem to go by so looking back 6 years doesn’t REALLY feel like it was that long ago. Even when Heather contacted us about photographing her daughter Sydney’s senior pictures we didn’t quite realize just how much 6 years really can make a difference. When we photographed Heather + Don’s wedding back in 2010, Sydney was about 11. For their engagement session we included their families so we had a little more time to get to know everyone outside of the wedding. Obviously it’s been several years since that time so the kids would have changed, but for some reason in the back of our minds we were only expecting a “slightly” older Sydney. Had her mom not been there we would have completely missed recognizing her! Sydney is a senior this year at Regis Jesuit and we can’t believe how much she’s grown up. She looks so much like her mom now- beautiful! We met up with the two of them over Labor Day weekend near Union Station downtown. We haven’t spent much time photographing at urban locations the past few years so it was a fun change and the location was perfect for Sydney’s personality- a little “sassy” as her mom put it 😉 . While the school’s yearbook doesn’t allow for outside photographers for the student’s “official” senior portrait, they do give them a space to submit some of their own photos and I think we got plenty for Sydney to choose from! We could have photographed all evening with her- Sydney is not camera shy one bit and was up for anything. We had so much fun that afternoon and are excited to share some of our favorites. Here’s a sneak peek from our day- enjoy!

Abby: Chatfield High School Senior Portraits

I met Katie (Abby’s mom) earlier this summer on my flight out of Denver to photograph a rocket launch at Cape Canaveral. They were headed to look at some colleges for Abby and we started up a conversation that eventually led to the opportunity to photograph Abby’s senior pictures. The third week of July our first attempt for Abby’s senior portraits didn’t exactly go as planned. The light drizzle that started shortly into our session became a full out rainstorm and wasn’t about to let up anytime soon. We called it a day and tried again a week later- this time the weather was perfect. Abby runs both cross country and track (she also swims) for Chatfield High School so she brought along her running gear for a few portraits and some “action” shots. She probably didn’t think she was going to get in that much of a work out while taking her senior pictures! Getting the perfect settings to catch a non-blurry “still” of her running was a bit of a challenge because she’s definitely got some speed! It’s obvious that Abby is beautiful and photogenic but she’s got such a sweet personality as well and from the looks of it- is a very talented runner. We had such a good time getting to work with both Abby and Katie and feel very blessed to have met them! We had so many good pictures that it was difficult narrowing down which ones to share but here’s some of our favorites. Enjoy!

Larkspur Senior Portraits: Sade

The day after Allison + Adam’s session in Larkspur we headed back down there again for our session with Sade but this time over to Columbine Open Space. Apparently everyone else decided it was a good day for a session there as well! There were probably 4 or 5 other photographers there that afternoon but with the wind and on and off sprinkles of rain we quickly had the place mostly to ourselves again (a little rain never hurt anyone right!?) Sade is a senior this year in Denver and I have a feeling she has modeled a few times before- she’s definitely a natural in front of the camera! We had a lot of fun with her and her mom Myriam that afternoon! We are so glad the weather did hold off and never fully rained on us but the clouds did make for cool looking skies for some of our pictures. We were even able to incorporate some images with a cap and gown to change things up a bit. Sade is an artist and we were fortunate that Myriam shared a few images of Sade’s paintings with us. She definitely has a talent for it so hope she continues to pursue that passion! Nothing better than being able to express your creativity in art! Here’s some of our favorites from the day:-)

Juliana Senior Portraits: Lair O’ the Bear

There’s nothing better than the fall in Colorado. Wish it would last forever and we could just skip the whole winter thing (except at Christmas of course). For the couple months it is here we don’t waste a second of it and this year will be no exception! The end of 2015 will mark our 10th year in business- crazy to think it’s been that long. After years of trying to balance our business with Michelle’s illness & various other things we’ve been dealt over the years, we finally made the decision to fully transition out of weddings and solely into portrait work. It was a difficult decision but we’ve had so many new opportunities open up and are excited for the future!  Getting to work with people like Juliana and her mom Trisha remind us just how blessed we are! Juliana is a senior this year out in Parker and while it’s plain to see just how photogenic and beautiful she is, her sense of humor and quick wit are what kept us laughing all afternoon up at Lair O’ the Bear. It was so difficult narrowing down which pictures to share from her session- it was almost impossible to get a bad photograph of Juliana! Right before the sun went below the ridge we took some of my favorite pictures ever. Juliana we hope you have an amazing senior year and enjoy every moment of it! God Bless!!

Abby: Castle Rock Senior Portraits

It’s crazy to think we’ve known this girly since she was only 11 years old and now we’re taking her senior portraits! And technically they could be called “college freshman” portraits since she actually graduated this last May from Valor and has started her first year of college up in Ft Collins. Abby’s family moved across the street from Michelle’s parents years ago and we’ve spent countless holidays and “family” get-togethers with them- they have basically become family:-)We were honored to get the opportunity to take these pictures for her- she’s definitely grown up to be a beautiful young woman! Not only that but she is an incredibly talented musician so we had to incorporate a few shots of her with her cello during the session. We met up with them at Columbine Open Space just outside of Castle Rock and then headed over to another favorite spot just up the way at Dawson Butte. We had so much fun getting to take these and are excited to get to share them! Here’s some of our favorites- enjoy!

Taylor: Senior Portraits at Lair O’ The Bear

Last weekend we met up with Taylor at Lair O’ the Bear in Idledale for her senior portrait session. Fall is my favorite time to photograph with the changing colors of the leaves and we couldn’t have picked a better location (and maybe a better weekend- crossing our fingers this cold wet weekend coming up won’t put an end to the fall colors). Taylor was so easy to photograph. A self-described “off child”, Taylor has tons of personality and was a blast to hang out with that afternoon. She loves water and flowers and having been to Lair O’ the Bear on numerous occasions riding my mountain bike I knew it would be the perfect location for her. This time of year there aren’t a lot of flowers around but we found a few wildflowers in the fields and with the river running along the park we had so many gorgeous backdrops to choose from we could have been there all day photographing. Since it is fall and since Taylor seemed up for having fun we figured what’s better than tossing leaves? I don’t care if you’re five or seventy five, playing in the falling leaves can make anyone smile and I love the photos we got of her especially her expression when they landed right on her head. Here’s just a sneak peek into our afternoon with some of my favorites from the day- enjoy!

Ryan Senior Portraits at Mt Falcon

Have I said how much I LOVE taking senior pictures? Especially when it’s for a friend’s son and at an awesome location like Mt Falcon. Earlier in the year we photographed Trey’s senior pictures downtown and this time around we got to take photos for his brother Ryan. Ryan was a ton of fun to work with! He wanted something a little different than his brother and really liked the “outdoor” nature-type look rather than the urban setting so Mt Falcon was a perfect choice. When we headed up the hill to meet them we had no idea if the weather was going to hold or pour on us. Fortunately we had plenty of time to get lots of great photos in right before the rain started and the clouds made for some awesome pics in the background. Ryan’s short hair for the photos was very recent- to the day in fact. A little misunderstanding at the hair salon left him with a mohawk that just wasn’t going to cut it for pictures so the day of the session he had to cut it all off- it looked great though and you’d never know! Ryan started a new school this year for his senior year and we hope he has a great final high school year (of course awesome photos definitely makes it easy to start the year out right- right?? haha). Here’s some of our favorites!
