Erinn + Will Engagements: Downtown Castle Rock

Brrrrrrrrrrrrr! That was the general sentiment we all had the afternoon of Erinn + Will’s engagement pictures the first week of January 🙂 These two braved the chilly temps and even though we know they were cold they both did a great job of not looking like they were freezing. The sunny skies were also a plus adding to the illusion of a warm winter day. Since moving to Castle Rock we’ve wanted a chance to photograph in our little downtown and we finally got the opportunity and LOVED it! We met Will way back in 2011 when he was in Cydney + Kiel’s wedding and then met Erinn this past summer. They have a destination wedding planned for this summer and while we won’t be photographing that for them we were happy to get the chance to capture this special time in their lives. We love getting to photograph engagements and it’s even more fun when you have an awesome couple to work with! Despite the temperatures we had such a great time and even stuck around town for a few pictures after dark with the town’s Christmas lighting- very cool! Thank you guys for a fun afternoon and wishing you much happiness in your future together!

Jasmine + Perez: Castlewood Canyon Fashion Engagements

Well… our session with Jasmine + Perez turned out to be a bit more of an adventure than any of us expected. The sun hid behind the ridge at Castlewood Canyon leaving us in the dark well before sunset and way before we had planned. But we got some amazing pictures that first night before it got completely dark and they were so sweet to come back the next day to finish their session. We actually met Jasmine a few years back when she came along for her sister Joann’s model pics (one of my very favorite sessions EVER) so when she contacted us for engagement pictures we were so excited to get to work with her this time and meet her fiancĂ© Perez. It was also nice getting to see her family again when they joined us the first night. We had so much fun getting to take these. Typically we photograph engagements with natural light only but they wanted something a bit different so our aim was to do more of a “fashion” themed engagement session using nothing but studio lighting. It takes a bit more time but they were so patient and I think the “look” we got in the end was well worth it! They were the perfect models 🙂 Here’s some of our favorite pics from their session- so excited to share these!

Mandy + Jack: Picnic Themed Engagement Session

Last Friday we had the pleasure of finally meeting Mandy & Jack for one of the funnest engagement sessions ever! Several years back we started dabbling in model and fashion photography and what we loved most was being able to tell a story and getting to use our creativity with this type of photography. So, when Mandy suggested a themed engagement session we were beyond excited to work out the details with them. Their idea was a Hamptons nautical/picnic theme. Pulling that off meant finding a setting that didn’t scream Colorado but could really be anywhere USA. We found the perfect location right here in Castle Rock that has areas of trees and tall grasses and then really cool sand bars with huge boulders. To say these two were easy to photograph is an understatement! They were so easy going and so much fun! Looking through the photos I don’t think anyone could guess it was Colorado in the middle of winter 🙂 We were hoping for a warm afternoon and fortunately besides the wind that kicked up midway through we lucked out with a really nice day. So excited to share these pics and couldn’t resist posting one of Jack’s awesome jumping skills. Cannot wait for their wedding this May and a big thank you to Cydney at Stiletto Events for recommending us!

Kristen + Tyler: Lair O’ the Bear Winter Engagements

We LOVE photographing engagement sessions! And as long as it’s not freezing out, winter can be a beautiful time of year for them. About a week ago we met up with Kristen and Tyler at Lair O’ the Bear in Idledale for their engagement session. This was the first time we’d gotten to photograph at that location in the winter and while it’s already a favorite spot of ours, it’s the perfect place this time of year. The snow along the half frozen river made for the most gorgeous backdrop! It’s pretty in the summer but doesn’t even compare to this! Kristen and Tyler are still in the midst of planning all their wedding details but wanted to start the process with an engagement session. They were referred to us by another local photographer, Kelsey Haffner, who takes the cutest baby & newborn pics 🙂 We are so thankful she sent them our way! Kristen and Tyler were so much fun to work with. They weren’t afraid to climb in a tree or walk on the frozen river (even after Michelle partway broke through the ice). You can tell they have fun together and make a great couple! We got some great pictures of these two and are excited to share them. Kristen and Tyler we’re so happy we got to work with you and wish you guys all the best with your wedding!!

Meghan + Kellen: Lair O’ the Bear Engagements

A couple years back I reconnected with Meghan (after we went to high school together several years ago) to take some images of her for her band Murphy and the Claytones. We had so much fun taking those photos and so I was really excited when she contacted me to say she was getting married! When we met up to talk about the wedding details and meet her fiance Kellen I knew instantly we were going to have an awesome time taking photos for these two. Right off the bat it was as if I’d known Kellen for years. He’s hilarious and so easy going- I don’t think you could ever have a dull moment with him around! And he keeps Meghan laughing and smiling which is even cooler! They really wanted a “Colorado outdoors” look for the pictures (without a lot of hiking 😉 ) so Lair O’ the Bear was the perfect choice. The colors and scenery were perfect up there since spring arrived just a bit late. Loved that we didn’t have to deal with any bugs either- although we did find a small gardner snake along the path when walking back from the open field. We had such a great time and could have photographed for hours with these two- so excited for their wedding less than a month away!
