Christen + Michael: Day 1 Erie Fashion Portraits

A couple of weeks ago Michelle and I had the chance to travel to Erie, Pennsylvania to spend a few days with her brother and sister-in-law. Neither of us had ever been really anywhere in that area of the country so that also made the trip pretty exciting for us. Michael & Christen flew us out to Buffalo where we got to see Niagara Falls on the other side of the border and then we headed to Erie for the next few days to spend some time relaxing and taking some photos for the two of them. It was a really fun trip and we had such an amazing time! So sad to come back home:-(We spent two days photographing in various locations in Erie. The first day we started out our shoot at The Crooked I– a local bar in downtown Erie, PA. The idea behind this shoot centered around a couple meeting in a bar. This whole shoot was photographed with two little portable flashes and a hand made snoot to direct the light using a brochure we found in the bar- pretty amazing what you can do without all the big equipment we normally use! For the second group of photos we got to utilize the loft area upstairs from the bar. The second and third floor was pretty much like shooting in an abandoned building- something we don’t have much of in Denver so it was great to get to use a space like that. These were more “romance novel” type images- something I think we accomplished well! The last section of photos we headed outside. The clouds started coming in and the temperature was dropping (as was the sun) but we found a couple of great locations to shoot before we were all too tired and hungry to go further. Loved the single pics we got of each of them outside the warehouse! Here’s some of my favorites from our first day with Christen & Michael. Stayed tuned for day 2 coming soon!!

Coming Soon to the Blog

Here are a few more things we’ll be blogging in the next couple of weeks to watch out for.

Denver Magazine Photographer: Red Rocks Family Pictures

The June Cover story for Her Life Magazine featured Anne Dunn- a mother of 4 who struggled with infertility (something we know all too well about) and was blessed with triplets after finally getting pregnant and a little over a year later added one more to their family. Photographing three 6 year olds and one 5 year old at first sounded pretty challenging but definitely not this family! We had such a great time with all of them and couldn’t believe how well behaved and easy going the 4 kids were. Since the story focused on family we figured why not photograph the session as we would a regular family session. We met up at Red Rocks for the photoshoot and spent the afternoon near my favorite location- the Trading Post. Anne is actually Janell’s sister-in-law (our trendsetter model from the May issue featured in the post below). We had a great time working with Anne’s wonderful family. Thanks guys for a great afternoon!

Her Life Magazine: Mrs Colorado + Soignee Elegant Attire

I’m a little behind in getting this post up with the start of our busy season but am finally getting caught up in blogging. This shoot goes back to March for the May fashion spread in Her Life Magazine. We had so much fun with this one- not only did we have some really cool clothes to work with but we also had the chance to photograph Janell Ames, Mrs Colorado 2011! What caught our eye about the clothes available at Soignee was the retro 20’s-40’s look of the clothing. The shop carries many other styles as well but these particular items matched perfect with the overall theme we were going for- a seamstress from the early/mid 1900’s. If you live in DTC area you have to check out this boutique! All the unique hats, purses, and props were all courtesy of the shop which made for a perfect setting for the shoot. The owner, Diane, is such a sweet lady and has some really great items available in her store. These photos are a few of my favorite images from the day including the ones you can find in the May issue.

This last week we spent time with Michelle’s brother and his wife in Erie Pennsylvania. Here is just a sneak peek into the few days we spent with them on the beach- holy hottness!!!

Kristin + John: Engagement Session Downtown Denver

In case I haven’t mentioned it in a few days- yep we have some awesome couples this year! I love it when people want to do something different so when Kristin & John said they were up for some night pictures for their engagement session we were very excited. Of course we did want to get in some photos with nice daylight as well- which I’m so glad we did because shortly before sunset we had that beautiful warm light through the tall grass that made for some gorgeous pictures! Kristin & John found us while researching for their wedding this September at the Inverness but it was while John was at the dentist that they confirmed they did want to meet with us. Kristin & John both go to the same dentist Michelle has been seeing since she was in middle school (Dr John C. Craiger– he’s awesome)- another one of those moments when you realize what a small world this is! Anyway, after meeting with them we were so excited to work with them and so far we’ve had a blast! We met up at City of Cuernavaca Park in Denver for some photos with their two doggies- even got a few individual shots of the two cuties:-)Later after the sunset we headed out for a few more shots over the Millennium Bridge and near Union Station. It was a little longer of a night for everyone but Kristin & John were such sports and we have some great images as a result. This was a tough one to pick my favorites from but here they are. Can’t wait to put together their engagement guestbook with these images!

Meghan: Littleton Band Photographs at Night

Meghan contacted me a little while back to see if we could set up a shoot for some individual promo images for her band Murphy and the Claytones of which she is the lead singer (and by the way has a beautiful voice!) I’ve known Meghan since back in high school and had no idea she was so talented. Apparently neither did she as it was just something she picked up one day not too long ago. Most of their music is R&B and they play in some local Jazz bars in Denver so we used that as inspiration for our shoot adding blues and purples to light up many of the photos. I absolutely love getting to photograph at night and while it may take a bit more patience with each shot than natural light it’s so worth it when you get the shot! We chose downtown Littleton since it’s a little less crowded then Denver on a Friday night and there are so many cool little alleyways and buildings in the small downtown area we had plenty areas to choose from. It was so much fun working with Meghan and getting to see her again all these years after high school. She was a great model! Thanks Meghan for being such a trooper while we walked around all night:)Love the shots we got!
